HARTINGTON  IPA ABV 4.5%

Malty nose combined with delicate hop aroma. Very smooth on the palate, maltiness dominates joined with subtle pear notes from the hop. Lightly sweetish but unmistakable finish.

ARBOR LIGHT ABV 3.6%

CATEGORY: Light Ales / Bitters

An extremely clean session beer. Lovely hop aroma. Satisfying clean sharp bitterness right the way through with a dry finish, but this beer has plenty of body. Its about as far away from being dirty and cloying as a brewer could possibly get. Excellent session beer any time of day.

Colour: Light blonde

Body: Med

FLOWER POWER ABV 5.3%

CATEGORY: Premium Pale Ale

A full on pale ale with a big hop presence. This was first brewed with John Evans and Lol Stephens from the Flowerpot in Derby for their first big beer festival and was an instant hit.

Huge hop nose on this. Warmth of malt soon gives to big citrus grapefruit and slightly herby hop flavours. It eventually develops into a complex lasting finish. Dry and packed full of complex flavours.

EARL GREY BITTER 4.2% ABV

CATEGORY: Bitters / Old Ales

A new addition to our line-up celebrating the re-opening of the Earl Grey pub in Leek. Named after Charles, the 2nd Earl Grey, who as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom contributed to the world-wide abolition of slavery by ratifying the now defunct British Empire's Abolition of Slavery Act 1833.

It is a golden brown coloured English ale brewed using 3 English hop varieties with the addition of some dark crystal malt. This has given extra depth to flavour, body and colour which, with considerable dry hop bitterness, makes this a beautiful beer and a proper ale.

Beautiful hoppy, fruity aroma. Warm malty start, with slight toffee notes, soon gives to dry hoppy bitterness developing into a lasting dry and complex finish making you want more. A lot more! Enjoy...

SPRING HONEY ALE ABV 4.3% - OUT OF STOCK Please enquire

CATEGORY: Special Pale Ale

A very refreshing light pale ale brewed with the addition of locally sourced raw summer honey foraged by bees within a 3 mile radius of their hives at Peak Honey only a few miles from the brewery. This is pure unprocessed honey from the Derbyshire hills; it doesn't get any better than that!

Delicate aroma and full malt flavours combine with interesting, sometimes unusual but subtle, honey notes giving a beautifully sweet finish.

A seasonal ale in the true sense. Extremely Moorish, we challenge you to only drink one pint - be good to bees !

BLACK CHRISTMAS ABV 6.1% - AVAILABLE 3.12.2015

CATEGORY: Old Ales / Dark Ales

Another old favorite and a bit of a legend now. It's essentially a porter/stout hybrid combining the qualities of an old ale so fairly trad in style. Alot of depth here and fairly complex but not without hop bitterness and extremely deceptive. Lots of complex lingering flavours, very warming, well rounded finish.

CASKADE ABV 4.3% - OUT OF STOCK Please enquire

CATEGORY: Lager Style

An old favourite showcasing the this well known hop. Big citrus nose and lovely whack of hops develop beautifully in this highly quaffable beer . Intense citrus flavours blend well with the lager malt without being over powering. It’s not just the extremely satisfying crisp dry finish that makes this another really special beer.

MAGIC MUSHROOM MILD ABV 3.8% - AVAILABLE 8.03.16

CATEGORY: Milds / Dark Ales

Back from the depths of time due to vigorous demand and various ‘heads’ promising to put the hex on me, another old favourite returns. This dark mild contains roast barley and crystal malts but uses lactose to increase body and texture without increasing the abv thus making it drink more like a 4.3 % than a 3.8.

Sweet aroma, distinctive mix of roast malty flavours combine with that milk stout  character winding up with a smooth finish.

A very moorish ale from the old book of  Whim. The answer to the obvious question is ‘no’ because I don’t want to go to jail, the trick is all there in your mind so you decide !

SNOW WHITE ABV 4.9% AVAILABLE 15.02.16

CATEGORY: Wheat Beers

Our take on a Bavarian weissebier comes cloudy or will drop bright on request. Fresh ground coriander is used to add dimension and flavour to this beautiful drink. Sweet spicy slight banana /orange aroma. Rich smooth texture and spicy orange flavours combine to make this a special beer. Sweet complex finish.

RIWAKA ABV 3.8% OUT OF STOCK Please enquire

CATEGORY: Light Ales / Bitters

A very special one-off light golden session ale featuring the holy grail of hops Kiwi style.

Hoppy/malty nose, then after the initial clean dry bitterness it gradually envelopes the whole mouth as the complex hop flavours build more and more, only finishing after the next gulp which cleans the palate starting you all over again. Oh yes, hop heaven !

HAND CRAFTED

CASK CONDITIONED ALES

We are a ten barrel micro brewery specialising in producing top of the range cask ale using the finest Maris Otter malt, whole cone hops, Derbyshire hill water and our own freshly cropped yeast.

Whim Ales started in 1993 in an outstanding location at The Whim Farm near Hartington in The Derbyshire Dales, Peak District; the brainchild of owner Giles Litchfield who wanted to make use of redundant farm buildings and have more beer than even he could drink. To design the brewery and commission the plant, highly experienced brewing consultant David Smith was enlisted followed by soon to be Head Brewer Joe Allsop and tasked with the following remit which still stands true today:

real ale  To consistently make fantastic beer

real ale  To consistently make fantastic beer that is not bland or tasteless

This seems to have done the trick. 20 years on we still have almost exactly the same setup with the same head brewer and a creative dedicated long serving team. Hard work, consistently producing exceptional beer

with no compromise or short cuts on quality and full commitment to dealing directly with our customers has earned our reputation in the business rather than clever marketing or cheap ale. So for our 20th anniversary we thought that we could celebrate by creating a website. Thank you to all that have supported us over the years and to all of you who will continue to sell and drink our ales which we are very proud of.
